… Over 23 Projects Commissioned in 10 Days as Governor Pledges More Development Across All Communities

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has declared that the most significant achievement of his administration in the last two years is not just in physical infrastructure but in the restoration of public confidence in governance. He made this declaration during a post-project commissioning rally held at Practicing School, Uzuakoli, Bende Local Government Area on Friday, June 20, 2025.

Addressing a jubilant crowd of supporters, community leaders, and government officials, Governor Otti stated that his administration’s greatest accomplishment lies in rekindling hope, rebuilding trust, and reaffirming the people’s belief that government can truly serve their interests.

“Our biggest stride in the last 24 months is the restoration of public confidence in government and its institutions,” Otti emphasized.

He reiterated that governance under his leadership is driven by people-focused policies, transparency, and a relentless commitment to delivering impactful change.

“This Is Just the Beginning” — Otti Promises More Transformational Projects

Governor Otti assured the people of Uzuakoli and the wider Bende axis that the projects already delivered are only a prelude to what is coming. He noted that the region plays a pivotal role in the administration’s agricultural transformation programme aimed at achieving food sufficiency, employment generation, and boosting the state’s internal revenue.

The Governor spotlighted the completed 67.6-kilometre Umuahia-Uzuakoli-Abiriba-Ohafia Road—renamed Joe Irukwu Way—as a prime example of his government’s commitment to unlocking economic potential through infrastructure.

“Experts are projecting a significant GDP rise in this region over the next 12 months, thanks to this road project alone,” Otti stated.

He further revealed that efforts are underway to drastically improve electricity supply across Abia’s central and northern zones through the state’s newly created energy independence plan.

Governor Otti spoke about recent achievements, including the operationalization of the Abia State Electricity Regulatory Agency (ASERA) and a partnership with a multinational telecom company for the laying of high-speed fibre optics cables across the state.

He urged hoteliers and hospitality entrepreneurs to prepare for a surge in tourists during the 2025 yuletide season, with projections showing record-high numbers of visitors returning to the state.

“It’s either you raise the bar or get left behind,” he warned operators in the hospitality sector.

The Governor directed the Commissioner for Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy to collaborate with LGA Mayors to curate and publicize cultural festivals statewide, positioning Abia as a major tourist destination this December.

23 Projects Commissioned in 10 Days

In his remarks, Governor Otti announced the commissioning of 23 new projects across all three senatorial zones in the last 10 days, comprising 18 road projects and 5 primary healthcare facilities. He pledged that no community would be left out of the development process.

“As you return home, tell everyone in your place that we shall be visiting soon—either to flag off a new project or commission a completed one,” he said.

He issued a stern warning against vandalism of public assets, instructing security agencies to clamp down on scrap metal dealers and hold community leaders accountable if such crimes occur in their domains.

Abia Arise: More Than a Movement

Governor Otti also praised the grassroots mobilisation platform, Abia Arise, led by Hon. Nkem Okoro, describing it as a non-partisan vehicle for civic education and leadership grooming. He urged more Abians to join the structure to sustain the gains of his administration beyond his tenure.

“The pursuit of good governance in Abia is a life-long quest. The objective is to ensure that even after we leave office, Abia will not return to the mediocrity of the past,” he concluded.
