A final year Criminology student at FUOYE, Olalekan Oni, has been arrested for allegedly raping a male colleague. The university’s Student Union and Ondo State Student Association have issued statements distancing themselves from Oni, who denies the allegations.
In a shocking revelation, police have arrested Olalekan Oni, a final year student of the Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) in Ekiti State, for allegedly raping a male colleague. Oni, a Criminology student known as “Asiwaju,” recently presented his project on “Causes and Youth Involvement in Criminal Activity: A Case Study of Oye Local Government Area.”
A video circulating online on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, shows Oni, dressed in a shirt and shorts, being escorted by police amidst a crowd.
The National Association of Ondo State Students swiftly distanced itself from Oni, stating, “We want to clarify that the individual Oni Olalekan, popularly known as Asiwaju, accused of sexual assault, is not a member, executive, or appointee of our association.”
Similarly, the FUOYE Student Union issued a disclaimer: “Oni Olalekan, popularly known as Asiwaju, is not a member of the Students’ Union Government nor an appointee. Any claims to the contrary are incorrect.”
The spokesperson of the Ekiti State Police Command, Abutu Sunday, confirmed the arrest, noting that Oni denies the allegations. “Investigation has commenced. The suspect has been arrested and investigations are ongoing. The suspect is denying the allegations, so we will see the result of the investigation,” Sunday stated.
Both the National Association of Ondo State Students and the FUOYE Student Union emphasized their commitment to a safe and inclusive environment and assured that justice will be pursued diligently.
