FOCUS ON THE ENVIRONMENT: ALEX OTTI’S GRAND PLAN TO KEEP ABIA CLEAN- By. Ferdinand Ekeoma

“Abia Stinks!” Do you still remember who said that? You know to who? Do you recall the occasion? It is indeed a pity that for thousands of visitors who visit this state every day from different parts of the world, the first sights you encounter are heaps of refuse- before offensive air from the dirty drainages give your nostrils a heavy knock.

That previous administrations in Abia state including the present one have failed in giving due attention to the environment is beyond argument.

The shameful neglect of Abia environment is the reason Abia now ranks as the dirtiest state in all of Nigeria while Aba and Umuahia contain some of the foulest airs in the whole world. Need I tell you the dangers dirty environment pose to our health and wellbeing?

You may also look at the cost in terms of time spent in hospitals, money spent treating various diseases and ailments and the loss of precious lives. Because Abia environment has been abandoned by the current and previous administrations, many touts and hooligans and destitute from all over the country now consider Abia a favourite destination.

But we can mitigate this reproach and work with Dr Alex Otti of APGA to create a liveable space- one that supports human existence. There is no reason to cover your nose while walking the streets- you have the right to clean, quality, natural air.

Dr Alex Otti will rejig the waste disposal and management architecture in the state by collaborating with the best names in the business of waste management, engaging them to partner with ASEPA and tasking them with the job of cleaning up the state.

Dr Otti will also seek ways of turning our waste into useful products such as energy to power our homes and cities and other recycled products that can be valuable in one way or the other. He will not deceive Abians by wasting his time signing useless MOUs that would end up in foundation laying ceremonies like the Okezie Ikpeazu led government is doing.

He will not indulge in criminal exploitation of Abia residents who pay all manner of levies, especially ASEPA levies without seeing ASEPA refuse agents near their homes from January to December.

Dr Otti will adopt international best practices in urban waste management. Contracts for refuse disposal should not just go to party stakeholders who really have no competence in waste management. For Otti, only the best is good enough for Abians.

Advert

Dr Otti will seek ways of creating jobs for our youths in environmental management and waste management either as supervisors or recycling plant operators. This is a model that has proved very effective in Europe and several other parts of the world. Nothing stops Abia from having viable recycling plants that can be used to generate wealth for the state.

With Otti’s plan for the environment, you do not have to cover your nostrils while strolling your neighbourhood and fighting off flies and mosquitoes in your homes and office; that would be a thing of the past. Dr Otti is coming to clean up Abia- literally and figuratively.

Get ready. Secure your PVCs, talk to someone about Dr Otti and invite them to join you in mobilising votes for the visionary candidate. To learn more about Otti’s plan for the state- visit www.alexotti.com. Spread the word- Otti is coming.
