Lagosians smiles: Transportation solution to hit Lagos Soon

The Lagos State government has announced plans to provide alternative solution after its decision to suspend the operation of okada and tricycles in certain areas in the state.

The state commissioner for transport, Frederick Oladeinde disclosed that government plans to introduce what it calls First Mile and Last Mile (FMLM) mobility solution to replace banned Okada and tricycle from July.

The commissioner made this known while speaking on Wednesday at the 2020 ministerial press briefing at the JJT Park, Alausa, Ikeja.

He said: “Following the restriction of motorcycles and tricycles for commuter operations in some areas in the metropolis, the government is working on implementing a First Mile and Last Mile (FMLM) mobility solution.”

The commissioner explained that Okada and tricycle are not part of the state’s transport architecture and have been a source of concern for the government due to the high rate of accidents and crimes associated with it.

To this end, Oladeinde noted that the state government has identified a new solution to address the need of residents.

“We have identified 285 last mile routes within the seven bus reform initiative zones across Lagos. We have developed bus specifications and shared same with potential bus manufacturers. We expect these to be rolled out in the next two months,” Oladeinde said.’

AFNews recalls the Lagos State government under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu some months ago, banned the activities and operations of Okada and tricycle riders in certain areas of the state.

The ban became effective on Saturday, February 1, 2020.
