A member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC),Chidinma Paschaline Odume, who allegedly stabbed her boyfriend to death has been discharged by an Akwa Ibom High Court.

Odume was last year alleged to have killed 26 year old Akaowo Japhet who invited her to his house on January 12, 2021.

He allegedly attempted to kill her during a disagreement but the suspect over powered him and used the matchete on him which led to his death.

The Corps member had attributed her action to self defense.

Giving judgement on Thursday, January 13, 2022, Justice Nkanang of the Akwa Ibom State High Court, Uyo struck out the case, discharging Odume.

The discharge was following a Nolle Prosequi (formal notice of discontinuation of the prosecution without a conviction) entered by the Attorney General of the State, dated January 10, 2022.

The court noted that the action was pursuant to section 211 (1) (c) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Section 71 of the Criminal Code Procedure Law of Akwa Ibom.
