FG Sets Date To Recognize CONUA, ASUU Faction

The Congress of Nigerian University Academics (CONUA), a faction of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), will on Tuesday, receive a certificate of recognition by the Federal Government.

CONUA which has presence in a few federal universities, is led by its National Coordinator, ‘Niyi Sunmonu, a lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.

According to an invitation letter sent to newmen, the presentation will be chaired by the Minister for Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige at the Minister Conference Room, Federal Secretariat, Phase 1, Abuja by 2 pm.

The invitation letter signed by the Deputy Director of Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Oshundun Olajide read in part;

“The Honorable Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige cordially invites you to the recognition and presentation of Certificate of Registration to the Congress of Nigerian University Academics”.

Recall that ASUU have been on strike since February 14, 2022. The National Industrial court had ordered the union to call of the strike and return back to the classrooms which the union refused and appealed the judgement.
