The federal government has announced the implementation of some new policies that would allow Nigerians to have easy access to the National Identity Numbers (NIN) enrolment process.
Part of the new measures includes the extension of the tenure of National Identity Numbers (NIN) enrolment agents of Mobile Network Operators (MNO) from one to five years.
The announcement was made in a joint statement by the Communications Commission (NCC) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) on Wednesday, March 3.
The agencies also disclosed that the government approved the establishment of SIM swap centres for Mobile Network Operators (MNO) operators across local government areas in Nigeria.
The statement read in part: ”This is a deliberate effort of the Federal Government to simplify the enrolment process for Nigerians and legal residents.
“The technical committee was mandated to complete the development of a new SIM issuance strategy that cannot be compromised.
“This will ensure that there is no repeat of the past process that was compromised through pre-registration by some agents.”
