Residents of Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have been thrown into panic after a suspected bomb explosion reportedly killed several people and left many others injured in a fresh security incident that has shocked the area.
According to local sources, the explosion occurred on Monday in Woro community, a community that has already been under security tension following previous attacks by suspected terrorists. Although no group has officially claimed responsibility for the explosion, residents believe the explosive device may have been an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) allegedly planted by terrorists suspected to be linked to Boko Haram.
The latest explosion is coming barely weeks after a deadly attack in Woro and nearby Nuku communities in Kaiama LGA where at least 75 people were reportedly killed and several houses burnt by suspected terrorists, forcing many residents to flee their homes.
Following that earlier attack, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had ordered the deployment of a military battalion to the area to restore peace and prevent further attacks. However, the latest explosion has raised fresh concerns about the security situation in the area and whether the deployed security presence is enough to protect residents.
As of the time of filing this report, no official statement has been released by the police or the Kwara State Government regarding the explosion. Efforts to reach the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer were unsuccessful, leaving many residents worried and uncertain about the situation.
Local residents say fear has now gripped the community as people are afraid of further explosions or attacks, while families are still searching for missing relatives after the blast.
Security analysts say the repeated attacks and explosions in Kaiama Local Government Area are a serious security concern and may indicate the spread of terrorist activities into new areas, which could pose a major threat if not urgently addressed.
More details are expected to emerge as security agencies begin investigation into the incident.
