Enyimba Hotel: Gov. Otti Is Fulfilling His Campaign Promises, Expect More - Acho Obioma

After 46 years of abandonment, the Enyimba International Hotel reconstruction has officially begun, drawing strong reactions from key government officials and raising fresh expectations across Abia State. Read the full story.

The Special Adviser to the Governor of Abia State on Political Matters, Hon. Acho Obioma, has congratulated Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, on the official flag-off of the reconstruction of the long-abandoned Enyimba International Hotel in Aba.

Speaking shortly after the groundbreaking ceremony, Obioma vividly recalled the 2023 campaign season when Governor Otti, then the Labour Party governorship candidate, made a firm promise to Abians that the Enyimba International Hotel would be revived and completed into a full-fledged five-star hospitality destination.

“I remember during the 2023 campaign when His Excellency assured Abians that Enyimba International Hotel would no longer remain a symbol of abandonment. Today, that promise is being fulfilled. Governor Otti is working the talk,” Obioma stated.

Obioma, who served as the Campaign Director-General during the election, said the flag-off ceremony is personal and symbolic to him because it reflects the integrity and consistency that defined the governor’s campaign message.

For over four decades, the imposing structure of the Enyimba International Hotel has stood on Ogbor Hill in Aba, a silent reminder of unrealised ambition.

Originally conceived in 1979 by the old Imo State Government under the leadership of Sam Mbakwe, the 125-room, seven-storey five-star hotel was envisioned as a hospitality masterpiece for the South-East. However, following the creation of Abia State in 1991 and the sharing of assets, the project was inherited but never completed.

What was meant to symbolize economic strength became, instead, a monument to stalled development.

The Abia State Government, under Governor Otti, has officially flagged off the reconstruction of the historic hotel in partnership with Radisson Blu, a globally respected hospitality brand. The project is being driven through the Greater Aba Development Authority (GADA) as part of a broader infrastructure renewal and economic transformation strategy.

Hon. Acho Obioma expressed confidence that the Enyimba Hotel project is only one of many campaign promises already being implemented.

He assured Abians that Governor Otti remains committed to delivering on all pledges made during the electioneering period.

“All Abians need to do is sit back and enjoy the ride as Governor Otti pilots the affairs of the state. The administration is focused, disciplined, and determined to complete what past governments left undone,” he said.

According to him, the reconstruction of the Enyimba International Hotel goes beyond infrastructure. It signals a shift toward global standards, economic revival, tourism expansion, and renewed investor confidence in Aba and Abia State at large.

Observers say the symbolism of the project cannot be overstated. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the once-abandoned structure is now positioned to become a catalyst for tourism, job creation, and economic rebirth in Aba historically known as Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre in the South-East.

Members of the Aba business community have described the development as a long-awaited turning point, expressing hope that strategic partnerships and disciplined governance will finally unlock the city’s vast economic potential.

For many residents, the moment represents more than the revival of a building, it reflects renewed confidence in leadership and governance.

After 46 years of waiting, a dream conceived in 1979 is finally taking tangible shape.

And this time, stakeholders believe the story will end differently.
