EDO DECIDES: Obaseki Urges Calm, Reveals Next Line Of Action

Governor Godwin Obaseki has urged Edo citizens to remain calm and avoid violence following the declaration of APC’s Monday Okpebholo as the winner of the governorship election. He hinted at pursuing legal action to challenge the results.

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has called on citizens to remain peaceful following the declaration of Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Edo Governorship Election. In a televised address, Obaseki expressed dissatisfaction with the election’s outcome and hinted at the possibility of pursuing legal action to challenge what he described as a “blatant disregard for law and process.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Okpebholo as the winner after securing 291,667 votes, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who polled 247,274 votes.

Obaseki urged Edo residents to refrain from violence and destruction of property, assuring them that peace and justice will ultimately prevail. He noted the frustration many feel but emphasized that democracy offers legal channels for addressing grievances.

“Peace and justice will always win in the end. I urge all the good people of Edo State to maintain calm, despite this provocation,” he stated.

The governor further accused INEC of impunity and lawlessness in conducting the election, vowing to use democratic processes to resolve the situation.

While expressing his disappointment, Obaseki hinted at the possibility of contesting the election result in court, asserting that the outcome has disheartened many Edo citizens. He urged them to continue their lawful activities, assuring them that the PDP would seek redress.
