John Obi Mikel explains ‘easy fix’ for Chelsea to finally sign Victor Osimhen this summer, he wants the Blues

Chelsea’s striker search over the last few years has normally ended with one player in particular, however a deal has never been reached in the past.

The Blues have frequently been heavily linked with the signing of Victor Osimhen, with them coming closest to signing him at the start of this season.

Chelsea made their best offer for Osimhen however walked away from the deal, instead pursuing with just Nicolas Jackson as an outright senior striker at the club.

The Senegal international has scored some important goals this season, including his first ever from outside the box against Everton last time out, however it is pretty universally recognised that they are going to need to strengthen this summer if they want to climb further up the table.

Osimhen’s name has refused to go away in reports though, with countryman and club legend John Obi Mikel playing a key role mediating between the two parties.

After being asked where he thinks the striker will end up this summer, the former midfielder stated it is an easy fix for Chelsea to complete the signing should they choose to, after already having done the hard work.

He said: “He wants to play for Chelsea. I hope [he’ll be playing] somewhere in the Premier League. I know where we stopped in terms of the contract, I know where we are. It’s an easy fix, because we’ve done all the hard work last summer. It’s so easy to just pick it up and then the deal is done.

“This guy does what he does best, score goals, and that’s what we’ve lacked this season. We don’t score enough, and that’s why we’re where we are today. With Osimhen, that’s what he does.”

Given how competitive the striker market is going to be amongst elite sides the summer, it is a wise idea to have more than one player on the shortlist going into the transfer window.

The Blues are big fans of Liam Delap, and are favourites to sign the striker despite interest from the likes of Manchester United due to his previous relationship with Enzo Maresca.

They have also been linked to big names such as Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko, however are also holding interest in less-established players that suit the project they have been carrying out.

Chelsea have been linked to Emanuel Emegha, with the striker in fantastic form in 2025 at fellow BlueCo club Strasbourg.
