Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex C. Otti, OFR, in his 2025 Easter message, has rekindled hope and reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare, growth, and spiritual foundation of the New Abia vision.
In a touching address released on Easter Sunday, April 20, Governor Otti extended warm greetings to Christians in Abia and across the world, emphasizing the need to live like Christ by embracing love, sacrifice, and forgiveness—virtues he described as foundational to meaningful human existence.
“The joy of the Resurrection reminds us that God does not abandon His own. For us in Abia, a state wholly dedicated to the supreme wisdom of God, we rejoice because we are living proof of His faithfulness,” Otti said.
He also welcomed Abians returning home for the Easter celebration, expressing delight over the rising “think home” consciousness among the people. He praised their social and economic contributions, urging continued investment in the development of the state.
Commendation for Abians and Christian Leaders
Otti reserved special praise for the hardworking men and women across the state whose resilience and creativity, he noted, define the spirit of the “New Abia.” He thanked them for supporting the government’s development efforts and bringing global recognition to the state through their skills.
He also saluted leaders of the Christian community for their unwavering commitment to raising genuine disciples of Christ and supporting development through investments in education, healthcare, and care for the underprivileged.
“We are a community of faith—serving God’s children regardless of religious or doctrinal differences,” the governor stated. “We shall continue to support our churches in building a more compassionate and just society.”
Commitment to Vulnerable Groups
In what stood out as a major policy reassurance, Governor Otti reaffirmed his government’s resolve to support the physically challenged, widows, orphans, and the aged. He disclosed that the 2025 Appropriation Bill included a ₦3.4 billion allocation for poverty alleviation and social protection.
“Beyond cash transfers, our focus includes human capital development to boost earning capacities, particularly for women and economically disadvantaged groups,” he noted.
He further pledged never to abandon any Abian in need, declaring, “Whatever burden you bear as a member of this community, you will never run short of support and encouragement.”
Massive Teacher Recruitment and Agricultural Revolution
Governor Otti used the Easter platform to announce the issuance of appointment letters to 5,000 newly recruited public school teachers before the month ends. He also revealed plans to recruit an additional 4,000 teachers and technologists, citing increased school enrolment from the free and compulsory basic education policy.
In the healthcare sector, Otti said the ongoing staff audit would inform strategic hiring to meet critical needs.
He also stressed the importance of agriculture to the state’s economy. As the rainy season kicks off, the governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to turning Abia into a hub for agro-entrepreneurship, beyond subsistence farming.
“We are not just supporting farmers with improved seedlings—we’re ensuring protection of farmlands from saboteurs,” he said, warning that difficult decisions will continue to be taken in the interest of the people’s security and wellbeing.
Call for Investment and Lasting Impact
Otti urged those who returned for Easter to take advantage of Abia’s improving economic climate and invest in their communities. “This is the best time to invest in Abia. Your investments will create jobs and leave a legacy for future generations,” he said.
Drawing his message to a close, the governor reminded citizens that true greatness lies not just in personal success but in the impact of sacrifices made in love—mirroring the resurrection story of Christ.
“Let us rededicate ourselves to lifting others, sharing our blessings, and showing up for our neighbours,” he urged. “That is how we build a truly great Abia.”
Governor Otti then wished all Abians and their families a joyful and peaceful Easter celebration.
