Former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, has joined family members, political associates, and admirers across Nigeria in celebrating the 70th birthday of former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Azubuike Onyeabo Ihejirika (Rtd) CFR, describing him as “a statesman whose legacy transcends generations.”

In a goodwill message issued on Thursday by the Abia Rejoice Movement, Dr. Ogah extolled General Ihejirika as a rare patriot whose service to Nigeria remains etched in the country’s modern security and leadership history.

General Ihejirika, a proud son of Abia State, served as Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff between 2010 and 2014, a period marked by intense national security challenges. During his tenure, he led significant structural reforms within the Nigerian Army, strengthened operational capacity, and reinforced national unity through disciplined military engagement.

“General Ihejirika is not merely a soldier; he is a visionary leader, a unifying architect of progress, and a statesman of rare distinction whose life reflects courage, patriotism, and unwavering commitment to national development,” the statement read.

According to Ogah, Ihejirika’s leadership style has consistently embodied resilience, integrity, and service to humanity. He noted that beyond his military career, the former Army Chief has remained a respected voice in national discourse and a symbol of pride for Abia State.

The statement further emphasized that Ihejirika’s devotion to the welfare of his people and his steadfast belief in Nigeria’s unity have positioned him as a beacon of transformative leadership.

“As he marks this remarkable milestone, we celebrate not only his past achievements but also the enduring inspiration and guidance he continues to offer. His life story remains a powerful testament to discipline, vision, and purposeful action,” Ogah stated.

The Abia Rejoice Movement prayed for continued good health, strength, and fulfillment for the retired General, expressing confidence that his legacy will continue to shape future generations.

As tributes continue to flow across Abia and beyond, many describe General Ihejirika at 70 as a living symbol of disciplined leadership and national pride.
