Divine Grace Positive Life Empowerment Initiative. A Non-Governmental Organization has embarked on training some women of Umunnekwu Agbo Autonomous Community in Isuikwuato  L.G.A of Abia State on fashion designing so as to make them self-reliance in future.

Speaking in the community during the opening ceremony occasion, the National Public Relations Officer Umunnekwu Agbo Development Union Comrade Alaoma Sunday Onyekachi, lauded Divine Grace Positive Life Initiative for their efforts in training and empowering their women on fashion designing, noting that this is the fourth time such training and empowerment will be taken place in the community.

Comrade, while further thanking Divine Grace Positive Life, explained that with what has been happening in the community through them, it has brought a lot of development and urged them not to relent.

Also speaking, Mr. Alban Chibuike Ugoagha who is the Project Coordinator of the Project stated that if one empowers women, it amounts to empowering the society, explaining that in the next few years, they will be more fashion designers in the community who will in turn train others.

He hinted that in the next round of empowerment, the men will be included so that they will have a sense of belonging.

In an interview, some of the empowerment/training beneficiaries such as Onyinyechi Alaoma explained that the training will last for 15 months after which she will be empowered to start on her own.

She stated that she has learnt a lot and faster and thanked the organizers for the wonderful thing they have done for them.

Also speaking Miss Chinatu Okocha explained that she can now cut materials and use it to sew cloth which she can wear, expressing joy that soon she will become a fashion designer.

The trainer Miss Cherish Ekama said it was the will of God for her to be among those to train others and thank God for making it possible.

Miss Ekama who is training about 20 students however enumerated some of their initial challenges which are been take care of. She stated that at the moment the fashion school has 10 machines, one embroidery machine, one weaving machine etc. The sewing machines will soon be 20 in number as the project progresses.

During the occasion, highpoints include a question and answer session from the students to the instructors among other prominent things.

AN ADDRESS BY MRS CHIKA UGOAGHA, PRESIDENT OF DIVINE GRACE POSITIVE LIFE EMPOWERMENT INITIATIVE (DIGPLEI) ON THE OPENING CEREMONY OF THE SKILL ACQUISITION PROGRAM FOR WOMEN ON FASION AND DESIGNING IN UMUNNEKWU AGBO, ISUIKWUATO L.G.A ABIA STATE ON 11TH, OCT 2019

His Royal Highness, Engr.Eze Okey Udah (Nkalukwu Umunnekwu Agbo), leaders of the community, and the entire community, Trainees, and Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good morning!

It is my pleasure and honor to be in your midst today on this great occasion, the opening ceremony of a 15 months fashion and design training for women in this community which commenced September 2019 to end in November 2020.

I welcome you all with joy and announce to you that this project is brought to you by Divine Grace Positive Life Empowerment Initiative in collaboration with her foreign partner in Germany Positive Life Global Empowerment.

Both are charity organizations with the vision to discovering and meeting needs of children, women, men, youths in rural areas and communities around the world.

This project is strictly sponsored by NUE Germany, asb foundation in Germany and Ev. Luth. Kirchenkries Hamburg Ost – the facilities available to you today for this training were sponsored by them. Profound thanks to them in earnest.

It really trills me a lot that fashion and design now plays an important roll equally with other artistic and creative expression? And for a community like this, an innovative way to empower women with skills to rise out of poverty and provide a good source of living for their families.  This vision was developed during our computer training section in this community which ended in June 2019. During the counseling section with Mr Kelechi Imo our German instructor, the women indicated interest in the area of fashion and when we delved into it, we saw the need for it and today, it has become a reality.

Like they say “fashion is very important. It is life enhancing and like everything that gives pleasure, it is worth doing well”. Therefore, I use this opportunity to stir up the hearts of the trainees and appeal to you to let this 15 months count. Give it your best and work tirelessly and relentlessly until the dream of being a fashion designer becomes a dream came through.

Much thanks to Umunnekwu Agbo Community for accepting this project with all pleasure. I appreciate the women who provided a big Mattress for our trainer and making her stay very comfortable.

Thanks to Miss Ekama Lebo Jeremiah, a seasoned fashion designer, your trainer who sacrificed to be with you for this great empowerment. God’s grace to you as you work faithfully to complete this project in strength and in health.

Before I close, I strictly emphasis that the 20 trainees we selected based on personal indication and passion for fashion which we advertised for over six(6) months before commencement it was not based on any communal or clans selection at all.

However, we appeal to you to handle any matter with anyone outside the project with wisdom.

In conclusion, I hope this project will bring you a great height of success in life.
