The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has reacted to allegations that the Nigerian Army are getting ready to invade Niger Republic following the removal of President Mohammed Bazoum by a military Junta on July 28.

According to a statement issued on Thursday, August 3, by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Armed Forces of Nigeria are yet to receive any order to commence a military action against the Military junta in Niger Republic.

He explained that all civil options to return democracy in any case of coup, must be exhausted before military option may be considered if need be.

“The attention of the Armed Forces of Nigeria has been drawn to an online report stating that the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) is assembling its forces for military action in the Republic of Niger.

“The AFN is yet to receive any order from the appropriate authority to commence military action, against the military junta in Niger”.

“Military option was the last option to be taken in case every other option fails to reverse the situation and return the Government of Republic of Niger to constitutional order” the statement read in part.
