BREAKING: Detained Ex- CBN Governor Emefiele Brought Before Abuja High Court [PHOTO/VIDEO]

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has produced the detained Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, before an Abuja High Court sitting at Maitama.

This comes after Justice Olukayode Adeniyi on November 2 had ordered the anti-graft agency to either release Emefiele unconditionally or produce him in court to be granted bail.

The EFCC had failed to comply with the order when the matter came up for hearing last Monday.

The agency’s lawyer, Mr. Farouk Abdallah, had explained that the order was misunderstood, believing it was either to release or produce in court for bail.

However, Justice Adeniyi clarified that the order was either to release unconditionally or produce in court for any purpose, including bail.

In compliance with the revised order, the EFCC brought Emefiele before the court on Wednesday. Emefiele is facing charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, as well as corruption charges.

He had been detained since June 9 after being suspended from his position as CBN governor by President Bola Tinubu.
