… ADC Chairman says the days of personality-driven politics are over, unveils five-point integrity pact to rebuild public trust in governance.
In what many political observers are calling a direct jab at Nigeria’s dominant political parties, the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has declared that the era of personality cults and impulsive governance must end if Nigeria is to rise again.
Speaking during the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting of the ADC on October 7, 2025, the former Senate President said the ADC was not established to mimic the failures of the ruling and opposition parties, but to become “an institution of integrity, discipline, and people-focused leadership.”
“Nigeria can, and will, work for everyone — but only when we build a party bigger than any individual and stronger than any political moment,” David Mark said, insisting that ADC’s leadership standard will be guided by four non-negotiable pillars — character, competence, courage, and discipline.
The ADC Chairman, who once served as Nigeria’s longest-reigning Senate President, outlined a five-point reform agenda aimed at redefining political accountability and restoring citizens’ trust in governance.
According to David Mark, the party would operate under the principle of “open party, open books”, emphasizing independent audits, transparent procurement, and strict conflict-of-interest rules. He also stressed that merit must come before loyalty in all appointments, both within the party and in any ADC-led administration.
“Other parties revolve around individuals. The ADC will revolve around people, policies, and performance. The supremacy we seek is the supremacy of our constitution and our institutions — not that of personalities,” Mark stated.
He further announced that the ADC will champion digital membership registration, clean primaries, and public performance scorecards for all elected officials under its platform.
Mark’s remarks appeared to subtly reference the long-standing culture of corruption, godfatherism, and opaque budgeting that has plagued Nigeria’s major parties, promising instead a new model of transparency and inclusion.
“We will end the culture of parallel budgets and black-box spending. Every naira must be traceable to a purpose that improves Nigerian lives,” he added.
The former Senate President also reaffirmed ADC’s stance on judicial independence, legislative autonomy, and the need for credible, rules-based economic coordination to stabilize prices, create jobs, and secure food production.
“Nigerians are tired of slogans and statistics that don’t put food on their tables. Our focus is results — power, jobs, and safety,” he emphasized.
Analysts believe David Mark’s renewed political tone signals an attempt to position the ADC as the moral alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.
