The pharmaceutical Society Of Nigeria (PSN) has express dissatisfaction with the federal government plan to import the Covid- Organics from Madagascar
The federal government had through the Head of the presidential task force (PTF) Boss Mustapha said Nigerian had received a large quantity of the CVO to aid in the treatment of the deadly Corona virus in Nigeria
But the president of the Pharmaceutical Society Of Nigeria Pharm Sam Ohuabunwa OFR while registering his displeasure unbehalf of the pharmacy body said he received the news with disbelief
According to him “In principle, we would not mind Nigerian government importing any new drug that is proven to cure COVID 19 or indeed any other disease for which we have neither the capacity nor the technology to produce locally , we are appalled that Nigeria is about to spend scarce foreign exchange to import coal into newscastle ”
He queried the motive behind the planned importation ” Even if we are not going to pay for this . It is thoroughly disgraceful that a country that should be the leader of Africa with the largest GDP will allow itself to be dragged this low”
His opinion is coming on the background that . Nigeria have a higher number of tertiary institution, we also have a higher number research institution, and the best scientist in the world who are doing well and have done well in herbal and natural medicine
But According to him, a lot of them also have come up with potential remedy and solution to Corona virus but nobody listen to them not ordered for a trial of the herbal formulation because it is possible they have found a potential cure for Covid 19.
But rather than order for a trial of this herbal formulation, the Nigerian government remain silent in alliance to WHO only to wake up few days ago with a plan to import exactly the same thing from another African country
“Why are we like this ” he asked? ” If the world can supply us synthetic and chemical sophiscated medicine s which apparently we lack the technology to produce , why must we wait for the world to supply us Herbal formulation which we can easily make and which we have similar product”
The body therefore appeal to the Nigerian government to save the country the embarrassment of importing what we can produce locally here in the country , rather, we should try our own local formulation to see the level of it’s potency before trying the Covid organics from Madagascar.
“This dependency mentality must need to change and now is the time to do it”he concluded.
