Court Gives Verdict On School Driver Who Defiled 5-Year-Old Pupil In Lagos

An Ikeja Domestic Violence and S-exual Offences Court yesterday, the 16th of May 2022 sentenced a school bus driver, Tony Akpan, to life imprisonment for s-exually assaulting a five-year-old pupil of Roy Mind Favour Filled School, Unilag Estate, Magodo Isheri, Lagos.

Miss Itoro Wilson, a bus assistant was given a two year imprisonment for covering up and assisting the convict to evade justice.

Justice Abiola Soladoye convicted the defendants on a two-count charge bordering on child defilement contrary to Sections 137 and 415 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The trial judge, while delivering judgment, held that the prosecution had proved the charge of s-exual assault against Akpan and his accomplice, Ms Itoro Wilson, the school bus assistant.

Justice Soladoye held that there was an overwhelming evidence before the court that the defendants committed the offences for which they were charged adding that the testimony of the survivor was truthful as it was boldly narrated by her.

She also noted that the doctor’s testimony corroborated the narration of the survivor and ordered that the first defendant’s name be entered in the Se-x Offenders Register of the Lagos State Government.
She added that the second defendant ought to have spoken up and not concealed the truth about the incident, and because of that, was given a two year jail term and hoped that the punishment given to her will serve as a deterrent to others who might want to behave in like manner.

The judge admonished Roy Mind Favour Filled School, Unilag Estate, Magodo Isheri, the employer of the convicts, to recruit responsible staff as miscreants should not be on the payroll of any responsible school and that parents must get value for the money they pay for.
“Children are meant to be protected and not be subjected to any assault whatsoever,” the judge said.
