“I’m terrified!” – A corps member, Ushie Rita, raises the alarm after allegedly receiving threats from NYSC over her viral video criticizing President Tinubu and Lagos’ harsh living conditions. She claims the Lagos Government is searching for her. Get the full story inside.
A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Ushie Rita, has accused the scheme of threatening her after she publicly expressed frustration over the worsening economic situation in Nigeria. Rita, who is currently serving in Lagos, took to social media to lament the country’s rising cost of living, criticizing President Bola Tinubu and calling him a “terrible president.”
Rita’s emotional outburst, shared in a TikTok video, detailed her struggles with the daily cost of survival, skyrocketing prices, and the poor living conditions in Lagos. She also described the NYSC scheme as unhelpful, claiming that her monthly allowance could barely cover her transportation costs.

Expressing her distress, Rita narrated how essential goods keep increasing in price weekly, making independent living unbearable. She also highlighted the challenges of residing in Lagos, from poor infrastructure to persistent pollution.
“I just want to say to our president, I don’t know if there has ever been any president as terrible as you. You are such a terrible president,” she said.
“I just came back from the supermarket, and everything has gone up in price again. Every week, prices increase. I want to know if the government is doing something about it. Is this inflation ever going to stop? This is the first time I am living independently, and it is overwhelming.
“When I got home, my security personnel gave me the NEPA bill, and it has been doubled again. I can’t keep up with these bills. Lagos stinks! You can’t even take a walk without being hit by a terrible smell.”
She also questioned the value of the NYSC scheme, stating that corps members receive allowances that can hardly sustain them.
“Delete That Rubbish!” – NYSC Allegedly Moves to Silence Corps Member
Following her viral video, Rita alleged that she received a threatening phone call from an NYSC official, ordering her to delete her post immediately. In a subsequent video, she shared a recorded conversation in which a woman, allegedly from NYSC, demanded that she “pull down that rubbish.”
According to Rita, the official accused her of “insulting the government” and warned her of potential consequences. She, however, insisted that she merely voiced her personal struggles, questioning why she was being threatened for speaking the truth.
“Thirty minutes ago, I received a call from the NYSC board. The woman was threatening me to take down the video,” Rita said.
“It is so bad that you can’t speak against the government because they feel like they have chains to hold you. The NYSC board is already calling to threaten me. The woman told me I was insulting the government, which I never did. Why is the NYSC board threatening me under 24 hours?”

Rita further shared screenshots of messages from colleagues, alleging that the Lagos State Government was searching for her. One of the messages read:
“Lagos State Government is looking for you. I know because my LGI just posted about it in our group chat. Careful dear. All the best.”
The corps member said she now fears for her life, urging the public to hold NYSC responsible if anything happens to her.
Public Outrage as Nigerians React to NYSC Threat Allegations
Rita’s revelations have sparked outrage among Nigerians, with many calling out the government for allegedly suppressing free speech. Critics argue that citizens should be able to express their grievances without fear of intimidation or victimization.
As the controversy rages on, the NYSC and Lagos State Government are yet to officially respond to Rita’s allegations.
