Manchester City enter race to sign Crystal Palace captain and Liverpool target Marc Guehi on a free next summer – Paper Round

Liverpool have major competition if they want to sign Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guehi on a free transfer next summer as Manchester City have entered the race to sign the defender. Denzel Dumfries also made the headlines on Tuesday, with Manchester United said to be interested in the Inter star. Elsewhere, The Reds have identified Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba as a target.

Battle is on for Guehi

Liverpool will face a battle from Manchester City to land Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi next summer, reports the Mirror.
Arne Slot’s side missed out on landing the Palace captain on a £35 million deal on deadline day after The Eagles pulled the plug on a deal.
That has opened the door for other clubs to try to sign Guehi, who will be a free agent next summer.
“Manchester City are ready to rival Liverpool to sign Marc Guehi as a free agent next summer. And it could develop into a huge transfer tug-of-war between two of the Premier League’s biggest clubs for the England defender,” reports the outlet.
“Liverpool will revisit their interest next summer and will feel they have a big advantage in the race to sign Guehi.
“And now they have serious interest from City to contend with as the Manchester giants are huge admirers of the classy centre-half.”

Man Utd interested in Dumfries

A report in the Manchester Evening News suggests Manchester United are interested in Inter star Denzel Dumfries.
Relaying information from transfer website Football Insider, the article states United would also face competition from Manchester City for the Netherlands international.
It reads: “Man United are reportedly interested in Dumfries ahead of the January transfer window.
“However, Football Insider claim that City are also keen to secure the services of Inter Milan and Netherlands full-back.
“The 29-year-old recently revealed that he is open to a move to the Premier League, seemingly leaving the door open for a transfer to either Old Trafford or the Etihad.
“With his contract set to expire next summer, Dumfries will be free to hold talks with clubs abroad starting in the New Year.”

Baleba emerges as a target for Liverpool

Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba has emerged as a target for Liverpool.
Manchester United had reportedly been priced out of a deal for the Cameroon international during the summer, with Brighton demanding over £100m for Baleba.
The Liverpool Echo writes: “Reports on Monday emerged claiming that Brighton star Carlos Baleba may be a target for Liverpool.
“Indykaila reported that The Reds could make a move for Baleba in January, with the same outlet being credited by The Athletic’s David Ornstein about Manchester United’s interest earlier in the summer.
“United are reportedly still interested in signing Baleba – with some suggestions that Brighton would demand a fee in excess of £100m for the midfielder.
“However, Liverpool may have a different valuation in mind should their interest turn out to be genuine.”
