Governor Siminalayi Fubara has exposed the sabotage behind the Rivers State political crisis, accusing lawmakers of blocking peace efforts despite his commitment to good governance. Will Rivers State overcome this turmoil? Read more.
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has broken his silence on the ongoing political turmoil in the state, revealing how his efforts to foster peace and stability have been deliberately sabotaged. In a press statement, Fubara addressed Rivers people, expressing deep concern over the continuous political impasse and the roles played by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly in frustrating peace initiatives.
The governor, who reaffirmed his commitment to upholding constitutional order, lamented that despite implementing the terms of the peace agreement brokered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, including reinstating commissioners who voluntarily resigned, the crisis has persisted due to deliberate political obstruction.
Fubara emphasized that his administration has remained focused on good governance, ensuring that salaries are paid, infrastructure projects are progressing, and Rivers State remains secure. However, he accused the state lawmakers of frustrating these efforts, making genuine reconciliation and progress nearly impossible.
“We have political disagreements, but governance has continued. Salaries have been paid, major projects are ongoing, and Rivers State remains peaceful under our watch. Unfortunately, at every turn, the Rivers State House of Assembly has stood in the way of genuine peace and progress,” he stated.
Governor Fubara urged Rivers people to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring them that he will engage all relevant institutions to ensure democracy prevails. He reaffirmed his dedication to protecting the lives and property of citizens while navigating the state through this political crisis.
“As a people, we have always been resilient. We will approach this situation with wisdom, patience, and unwavering faith in the democratic process,” he added.
With the political situation in Rivers State intensifying, all eyes are now on the next moves of the federal government and political stakeholders. Will the crisis escalate further, or will a lasting resolution be reached?
