CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Why Man U Was Eliminated- David de Gea | READ DETAILS
Manchester United (Man U) cum Spanish goalkeeper, David de Gea has revealed why his team was eliminated in the Champions League Round of 16 playoffs.
Tuesday’s fixtures saw a Champions League showdown between the Red Devils and Diego Simone’s Atlético Madrid at Old Trafford.
The Spanish LaLiga side advanced to the quarter finals after edging out Ralf Rangnick’s side 2-1 on aggregate.
Defender Renan Lodi’s 41st minute goal simply dispelled United’s hopes for a breakthrough.
This serves as an aftermath of United’s 1-1 draw at Milan in the first leg.
Describing the result as ”disappointing”, 31-year-old de Gea stated his team was below par in both games.
“We are really disappointed with the result. It’s difficult to put into words how we feel now at the moment. We did not do enough in both games to win it. It’s a very disappointing day for us,”
The Spaniard went on to acknowledge their Spanish counterparts, Atlético Madrid, referencing their wealth of experience.
“They are a team with a lot of experience. They know how to play those Champions League games.
They scored a goal, they are a tough team so it was hard for us to create chances. We are out of one of the most important competitions so we are very sad.”
