TSUNAMI: Defection galore as PDP Argungu LGA chairman, 1,500 supporters join APC in Kebbi In a significant political development, Alhaji Bello Layya, Chairman of Argungu Local Government Area (LGA) in Kebbi State, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC ), bringing with him 1,500 supporters. The event took place during the flag-off of the APC Zonal Campaign Rally in Argungu on Monday, where Governor Nasir Idris, represented by his Deputy Sen. Umar Abubakar-Tafida, formally welcomed the new members.
Among the notable defectors are all the LG Ward Chairmen, Youth Leader, Women Leader, and former House of Representatives member, Garba Musa-Gulma. Governor Idris expressed his pleasure at the influx of former PDP members into the ruling party, highlighting it as a testament to the trust and confidence in the APC -led administration’s performance.
Governor Idris emphasized that the rapid growth in APC membership reflects the progress made under the APC leadership in Kebbi State over the past year. This progress includes advancements in education, healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure development. He urged the public to actively participate in the upcoming elections and vote for APC candidates seeking various positions, including chairmen and councillors.
“The State Independent Electoral Commission (KESIEC) is committed to ensuring free, fair, and credible elections across the state,” Idris assured. He also called for high levels of decorum and respect for the rule of law during and after the local government elections.
Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru, APC Chairman in Kebbi State, underscored that the zonal rally marks the beginning of an extensive campaign that will reach local government areas, wards, polling units, and even households. Kana-Zuru encouraged party loyalists and voters to work diligently towards securing APC victories at all levels for the betterment of the state.
He further appealed to the electorate to come out in large numbers to vote for APC, stressing that supporting APC means endorsing more developmental projects for their communities.
