A Business man, Ali Yakubu Numan has been sentenced to two years and six months (30 months) jail term for insulting the Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
Chief Magistrate Court II in Yola on Wednesday, August 11, convicted Numan with an option of N50,000 fine for using abusive language against the governor.
He was also sentenced to six-month imprisonment without the option of fine for disturbance of public peace.
In his ruling, Magistrate Japhet Basani, said that the court arrived at the verdict after it found the accused guilty of the two charges brought against him by the prosecution.
Numan had in July 2021 and on different days, criticized Governor Fintiri on Facebook.
In one of his posts, he described the governor as “a thief and father of all thieves in Nigeria” who stole hundreds of billions of Naira from state coffers.”
