The office of the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, in Awka, the Anambra State capital is currently on fire.
Observers noted the helplessness of the staff of the commission and other people who gathered at the scene to watch the raging fire doing damage to the property within the office.
The fire inside the Anambra State headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, started at about 2:10 pm.
The fire allegedly started from a container bearing election materials dispatched to the centre earlier.
Attempt to speak with the Anambra INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Nkwachukwu Orji could not yield any result as he did not take his call, nor did the Public Relations Officer of the Commission, Leo Nkedife responding to calls put across to his phone.
Newsmen gathered that part of the materials in the container are card readers to be used for Saturday’s election.
