Uduak Frank Akpan has pleaded guilty to the murder of job seeker Miss Iniubong Ephraim Umoren.
The 20-year-old could not manage to get a lawyer to represent him on Monday 26 July at the Akwa Ibom state High Court 6, Judiciary Headquarters, Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo.
The 26-year-old’s body was found in a shallow grave, with her mouth gagged and the neck strangulated and squeezed, eyeballs bulging and tongue popping out.
Akwa Ibom state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Uko Essien Udom (SAN) was the lead counsel for the prosecution team.
Ms Umoren was a final year student of the Department of Philosophy, University of Uyo. She hailed from Oruk Anam local government area of the state.
The deceasd had set out to look for a job to keep body and soul together only for her family to be informed by the police, who responded swiftly to complain by her friend, that she has been gruesomely murdered by the accused, Uduak Akpan.
The trial of the accused had been delayed owing to the now-suspended industrial action embarked upon by Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN).
