Currently there is altercation at bank road Umahia as tricycle (Keke) operators attack supposed Obstruction team of the Abia state government over alleged intimidation.
The altercation started on Wednesday morning at about 11:00am, when some members of the Obstruction team allegedly double crossed a keke man with their own keke with plate number; Abia state UNC815WL.
Speaking to ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER, a witness who pleaded anonymity recounted;
“ A keke man parked by the road side at Bank road, the obstruction guys double crossed him with their keke, telling the man that he was obstructing traffic.
“i approached the guy and told him that the way they are chasing for obstruction is not good.
“The keke man tried to move but his headlamp hit the obstruction guys’ own keke. So the guy called his brother on phone who came and started hitting the man’s keke with stone.
“ that thing angered other keke operatives passing and they stopped and started chasing the obstruction guys and they ran away.”
Our correspondent learnt that the obstruction team who abandoned their keke which they use for operation at the scene fled while one member ran into an office in Forte Oil (FO) Fuel station.
The keke operatives insisted that the station release the man to them, but he had already locked himself up.
Another source said;
Obstruction is the main reason. This obstruction has been dissolved but they regrouped themselves intimidating people even old people . They’ll be chasing us everywhere. There is no job in Abia the little we are managing they’ll be obstructing us.”
“ there is no bus-stop in Umuahia even this bank road, if you stop to pick or even pick someone, they’ll just rush into your keke, sometimes they’ll collect your key and you’ll pay up to N6,000 before they will release you.
“they use keke to operate , sometimes mini bus.
“Government did not approve this. There are so many touts in Umuahia. Everyday we buy daily ticket. If you go to Ishi gate they will stop you , go to Express tower, bank road, Ubakala the same thing.”
Speaking to one of Forte Oil staff, she said that the team member who was alleged to have been hidden by the station , ran into her office, jumped past her into the inner room and locked himself up.
The angry keke operatives who gathered, destroyed the keke used by the team, looted the parts and threatened to set it ablaze.
ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER observed that the jacket worn by the supposed obstruction team member had no inscription on it to identify him as a legal worker.
