The terrorist group further stated that many policemen and civilians were kidnapped during the attack.

“We just received a signal that Boko Haram terrorists attacked some police officers at Chabal community. A civilian Joint Task Force member was also shot dead. Soldiers from Maimalari Cantonment, 7 Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri have been mobilised to the area,” a military source said.

In another development, the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has directed Fulani herdsmen to return to the northern region if their security can not be guaranteed.

The directive was given on Wednesday by NEF Director of Publicity and Advocacy, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed while speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme.

He stated that the directive to herdsmen asking them to return was following alleged attacks on them, their families and communities in some states of the south.
