Benin Republic Extends Igboho’s Detention Amid Threats | SEE WHY

Popular Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo alias Sunday Igboho, will remain in custody as the government of the Benin Republic has extended his detention to another six months.

Pelumi Olajengbesi, one of the counsels representing Igboho, had on Friday, announced on his social media that;

“Chief Sunday Igboho will be out very soon and there will be massive jubilation across the entire Yoruba land……”

This have been countered by another legal counsel to the activist, Chief Yomi Alliyu (SAN). Announcing the extension of Igboho’s detention on Sunday, Alliyu told newsmen that

 “the government of the Republic of Benin has renewed the incarceration of Chief Sunday Adeyemo a.k.a Igboho Oosa for another six months even though there is no criminal charge in their file in Cotonou and without extradition request from Nigeria.”

He however revealed that the legal team of Igboho will petition the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) court on the matter.

Igboho’s extended detention is coming after the President of Agbekoya Worldwide, Kamorudeen Okiki had threatened to use traditional means to release Igboho if he is not released.

Okiki during a peaceful rally said;

“Sunday Igboho is not a criminal. We will continue to say that. We know that it is the Federal Government that is holding Igboho in Benin Republic, but we are telling Benin Republic authorities now to legally release him using their court.

“They should release him legally and quickly because they are not taking him to court again, or we will use our traditional means and powers to take Igboho out of detention.We are Agbekoya, if they don’t release Sunday Igboho legally, we are going to take him out of Benin Republic. They will just see that Sunday Igboho is out of their prison.”

Recall that Igboho’s house in Ibadan was raided on July 1, 2021 by operatives of the Department of States Services (DSS).

The agitator who fled to Benin Republic, was however apprehended at Cotonou airport by West African nation security authorities while attempting to flee to Germany on July 19.
