ASUU STRIKE: Why Education Minister Walked Out On Students | READ DETAILS

The Minister for Education, Adamu Adamu, on Monday, February 28, staged a walk out on the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), who visited him for a meeting.

NANS had given the Federal government an ultimatum of one week which elapsed on Monday, to resolve their issues with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), and call off the one month warning strike action.

Staging a protest in Abuja, the students who were refused entry to the National Assembly, headed to the Federal Ministry of Education where they were granted access to the Minister.

Speaking in the meeting with the Education Minister, the National President of NANS, Sunday Ashefon, demanded an immediate end to the ongoing strike while negotiations continue.

He also requested for the inclusion of Nigerian students in the negotiation process, threatening that they may ground activities nationwide as in the #EndSARS protest.

Responding, Adamu expressed disappointment in the students, noting that the Federal Government had done what was expected of it since the commencement of the strike.

Before he angrily walked out on the students, the Minister said;

“I must begin by telling you that I am very disappointed if this is the way you want to put your case across to us”.

In retaliation, the students blocked the ministry denying the minister and other staff entry or exit for hours, while they marched round the building chanting ‘Adamu must go’.
