AROCHUKWU STATE CONSTITUENCY(UPDATE): UKOHA TESTIFIES BEFORE THE TRIBUNAL

The Minority Whip/member representing Arochukwu State Constituency in the Abia House of Assembly Hon. Dr. Mike Ukoha today Wednesday 28th of August 2019, testified at the tribunal in the ongoing suit filed by PDP candidate Prince Eric Aso Kalu who is challenging his victory.

During the court proceedings, he mentioned his full name to be Onyekwere Michael Ukoha who hails from Amannagwu village Arochukwu and that he is a business man.

He was further shown by his counsel Barrister Ike Tagbo, his written deposition which he tendered before the tribunal in respect to the election which was conducted by INEC in Arochukwu and after relying and adopting it as evidence in the court proceedings

In form EC8A he made reference to the results collated in the entire Arochukwu State Constituency which were all contained in exhibit P1 to P14 he was asked by his counsel to take a look at it to confirm and adopt as well as form EC40G of first respondent where they was issue of over voting.

When being cross examined by counsel to PDP/Prince Eric Aso, Barrister Mike Onyeka asked him of the number of wards in the constituency and he explained that Arochukwu Constituency is made up of 11 wards and that election duly took place in all the wards.

Counsel to PDP/Prince Eric Aso enquired to know why he did not sign his written statement on oath which he tendered before the court and he stated that he was asked to only write his name and not to sign it.

When asked why he had to sign that of his party membership card, Dr. Ukoha hinted that he was asked to sign his membership card as a member of the party.

The lawmaker was further asked if his party has agents in all the 149 polling units and all the 11 wards that made up of the constituency and he acknowledged.

Barrister Onyeka further sought to know who prepared the EC40G and the answer was that it was prepared by the polling party officials; however Hon. Dr. Ukoha explained that he never knew one Nwaka Ugochukwu a collation officer for Ohaeke Abam ward, adding that he must have been appointed by INEC, and acknowledged that he knew one Akidi Juliana Obiageri a collation officer for Arochukwu ward 1 and Ogechi Blessing Enemuo a collation officer for Ututu ward.

When asked if he was conversant with the INEC guideline as stated in his statement, the presiding judge fired back, pointing out that if Dr. Ukoha made mention of the guideline on his witness statement, there was no need asking him such question, adding that it is not necessary.

The next witness was Okezie Nnaukwu Ogbuji from Amammiri Ihechiowa who hinted that the election as conducted by INEC was free and fair and that he acted as a party collation agent for Eleoha Ihechiowa, noting that the party has agents in all the polling units and 11 wards during the election.

The presiding judge explained that there will be an exchange of written addresses on or before 7th of September 2019 and adjourned till 9th September 2019 for further action.  

While speaking to the press after his testimony in the tribunal, the honorable stated that he has confidence in the panel and believes he will get justice. He further advised that lawyers should learn to properly advised their clients against going to court on issues they know have no merit.
