In what is shaping up to be one of the most controversial post-election battles in Abia State, Hon. Amobi Ogah, the Member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, has filed a petition with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), calling for the immediate investigation and prosecution of the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, for allegedly forging official polling unit results.

In the petition titled “Forgery, Uttering, and Tendering of Allied Forged Polling Unit Result Sheets Arising Out of the 2023 General Elections in Respect of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State by Hon. Nkeiruka Chidubem Onyejeocha,” Ogah accused the Minister of manipulating 63 polling unit results to mislead the election tribunal that eventually ruled in her favour.

According to Ogah, certified true copies of the actual results issued by INEC in Umuahia and Abuja differed significantly from the documents tendered by Onyejeocha during tribunal proceedings. Shockingly, he claims those forged documents also bore what appeared to be INEC’s official stamps — a move he described as a criminal act aimed at subverting justice.

“There can only be one authentic result per polling unit,” Ogah wrote in his petition. “INEC’s offices in both Umuahia and Abuja issued me certified documents, but what she presented were completely different — and INEC officials have denied ever issuing them.”

The lawmaker further disclosed that he obtained all official election materials through due process and submitted them in his defence at the tribunal. Yet, he was stunned to discover that Onyejeocha had presented a separate set of results for the same polling units — results that, according to Ogah, were not recognized by any office of the Commission.

He pointed fingers directly at what he described as “a deliberate and criminal manipulation of electoral records,” and demanded that INEC take immediate action by launching a comprehensive forensic investigation into the documents used by Onyejeocha during the court case.

“If INEC confirms these documents were forged, as I believe they were, then this is not just electoral fraud — it is a direct attack on Nigeria’s democracy. The Minister must be prosecuted,” Ogah emphasized.

The allegations, if proven, could lead to criminal charges against a sitting Minister of the Federal Republic, possibly including perjury and electoral document falsification — offenses that carry severe penalties under Nigerian law.

This development has ignited political tension in Abia State, especially in the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi axis where both politicians hail from, with observers closely watching how INEC and relevant law enforcement agencies will handle the explosive claims.

As of press time, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha has not responded publicly to the allegations.
