Amechi’s Ex Commissioner, Others Dump APC, Give Reasons | READ DETAILS

Three influential party members, including former transportation commissioner George Tolofari, left the All Progressives Congress (APC), continuing a trend of resignations in the party’s Rivers State branch.

Tolofari, a party candidate for governor in the elections of 2023, had worked as a commissioner for Rotimi Amaechi when he was the state’s governor.

He announced his resignation in a letter to the APC chairman in Ward 12, Bonny Local Government Area.

Tolofari claimed that the anti-corruption, justice, and equity platform the APC ran on was what brought it to power, but he voiced disappointment that everything the party advocated for was in place and even posed a threat to the county’s survival.

After assessing the situation under the APC-led government, the former transport commissioner announced his resignation from the state’s largest opposition group.

“The subject matter mentioned above. After reviewing the general status of the APC-led government in the nation, I have second thoughts about staying in the party after joining it out of personal conviction.

“The anti-corruption, justice, equity, and insecurity platforms on which the APC ran for office. However, those hopes have been dashed as instability, corruption, and injustice threaten to destroy our beloved nation outright.

“I apologize for disappointing my dear leaders and devoted party members in Bonny who look up to me as a leader and a devoted party member. I suppose I’m still only human, please pardon me.

“I am grateful for the chance to serve the state and the party in the recent past, and I express my gratitude to my leader, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi and the party.

“Although I know moving on will be hard and tough, I believe the time has come. I’d want to use this occasion to wish the APC luck in the upcoming 2023 elections.

Two further party members submitted their resignations from the party on Monday as well: Briggs Augustine Kenneth and Hon Theodore George from the state’s Akuku Toru local government district.

Dame Ibim Semenitari (information and communications) and Dr. Dawari George (energy and natural resources), two former commissioners who worked under Amaechi, resigned from the party.
