Ali Ndume Exposes Senators Buying Votes For Senate Presidency
It’s a known fact that most senators interested in the presidency of the incoming 10th senate are lobbying, however, Senator Ali Ndume has alleged that most of the aspirants are trying to buy over the votes of other senators-elect with money.
While speaking with BBC Hausa, Senator Ndume who is representing Borno South Senatorial District, lamented that the interested aspirants are no longer considering competence, rather interest.
“There are senators aspiring for the Senate President who give money to senators” Ndume said.
The lawmaker added that even those who knows nothing about the legislative procedures are contesting for the senate president position because they have the money.
“but because they have money, they are now in the pursuit of the seat.”
“If I am rich and can share money as was being done presently to get positions in the Senate, with my experience, I tell you I would have become the President of the Senate. There is nothing like considering competence, everything was monetised,”
“In the past it was said that the vote of the poor is being bought, now it has reached that even the senator’s vote is wanted to be bought” Ndume added.
The 10th National Assembly is expected to be inaugurated in June 2023.
