The Alex Otti Foundation, has begun the selection process of beneficiaries for her 2022 scholarship program. The Scholarship for undergraduates of Abia origin and residents is funded by Dr. Alex Otti, former Group Managing Director of Diamond Bank, and a two time Abia State gubernatorial aspirant.
Speaking in a press conference with some journalists in Umuahia on Saturday, February 26, 2022, the Executive Director of the Foundation, Mr. Chinedu Okeke said that the program is run professionally every year where undergraduate students who averaged 3.5 GPA upwards for public Universities and 2.8 GPA upwards for Polytechnics and colleges of education are asked to apply online for screening.
According to him, two sets of screenings are done, one of which is an online screening where students upload relevant documents of their background, academic qualifications, that includes their results, essays on why they are qualified. The second stage, selected students are invited for interview. He said that these two screenings are conducted by consultants who do not live in Abia and have no ties with any of the students in other to make the process very transparent and credible.
Beneficiaries of the scholarship scheme receive one hundred and fifty thousand naira (#150,000) every academic session until graduation with an idea to leave a lasting legacy that would impact the society positively. However, if a beneficiary fails to meet the approved CGPA in a session, he/she will be dropped from the scheme.
When asked how many students benefits from the program yearly, Okeke said that there’s no fixed number to that effect, but the foundation makes sure that any student that meets the required mark is selected for the scholarship.
He urged the beneficiaries and would be ones to emulate the kind gesture extended to them by Alex Otti in giving back to the society of their background as well as the world.
