The Vice Chancellor of the Akwa Ibom State University, Ikot Akpaden, Prof. Nse Essien, has asked the public to ignore a certain Facebook post advertising admission, recruitment and sales of laptops in the institution.

He said a fraudster opened the Facebook account, using his (Essien) name and photograph to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.

The VC, in a statement in Uyo, said he did not authorise the account, urging the public to disregard any information from the fraudster.

According to Essien, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board is the only agency mandated to conduct admission for candidates into Nigerian universities, adding that there is also no ongoing recruitment in the varsity.

“The scammer is asking those interested in the transactions to pay into Zenith Bank accounts of Dr Kenneth Allaeze/Obioma Faith Omaha/ Amos Izuchukwu Igiri.

“I have not asked anybody or agency to carry out the above-stated transactions on my behalf or the university. None of the bank accounts mentioned in those announcements belong to me or anybody or agency mandated by me,” he added.

PUNCH.
