Akpabio, Dickson Clash On Senate Floor Ahead Of Debate On Rivers State Of Emergency Declaration (Video)

Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the Senator representing Bayelsa West, Seriake Dickson, engaged in a heated argument during the plenary on Thursday ahead of the debate on the state of emergency declared in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu.

The two lawmakers clashed on what should be the process to be adopted in discussing the matter.

Akpabio accused Dickson of preempting the Senate during his speech during a TV interview on the happenings in Rivers State.

The former Bayelsa State Governor, however, said he expects there should be mutual respect among the senators as he only wanted to draw a point of order on what the Senate process should be in addressing the declaration.

The lawmakers thereafter proceeded to a closed-door session after the process to be followed had been agreed upon.

The clash follows a similar experience in the House of Representatives on Thursday when a rep member, Obi Aguocha, demanded a head count of members present in the session to ensure that two-thirds necessary to form a quorum were present in the House.

However, the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, ruled that the attendance register would be used instead of going for a head count.

Aguocha’s point of order prompted a rowdy session as lawmakers began shouting and engaging in heated exchanges. The Speaker struggled to regain control, urging the members to calm down. The disruption continued for several moments, with the atmosphere growing increasingly tense.
