Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia and business leader Sir Ako Obioma has said that all hands must be on deck to rescue Abia State from the clutches of the cabal, who have held the state down since the advent of democratic governance in 1999.
In a statement he released on the Abia State 2023 governorship election, Sir Ako Obioma stressed that there is every need for the people to come together, irrespective of political party affiliations to rescue the state from oppressive tendencies.
He maintained that since 1999 till date that governance in Abia state has been in the news in the negative way because certain people took advantage of the benevolence and trust of Abians to hold the state in political bondage. Sir Ako Obioma pointed out that these politicians would have received accolades had it been they used the opportunity to improve the lives of Abia people, adding that they only succeeded in destroying the state and the dignity of its people in the process.
Quoting Albeit Einstein, he said “The world would not be destroyed by those who do evil but by those who saw them without doing anything, while saying that he still restates his earlier position that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu remains the best governor of Abia since the creation of the state except for Air Vice Marshall Frank Ajobena (retd).
Said Sir Ako Obioma “From 1999 to date, Abia State governance has been in the news negatively because one family took advantage of others benevolence, and trust to hold the state hostage. If in doing this they have improved our lives and environment as the late Flt Lt JJ Rawlings did to Ghana, we would have praised and possibly asked them to continue where the constitution permits. But they only destroyed our dignity, made us a laughing stock among comity of states and used our common wealth to put a knife in the unity and love that bound us together, we and everything have fallen apart”.
Continuing he said “If you could recall my social media article of 27th February 2021, whereby I wrote that except Air Vice Marshall Frank Ajobena (retd), Dr Okezie Ikpeazu is the best governor Abia have had since creation. I do not mean to say he has performed remarkably well or could be compared to the governor of Ebonyi state Engr Dave Umahi, but the hostage under which he has operated and achievements he has recorded, only an unbiased Environmental and Engineering professional could see my basis for that conviction which is not the issue at stake now. Our people say “Omere aghaa onwuola, ole otu aga eme ya” what do we do is dead, how do we do it?
“Meanwhile, bearing in mind Abia transitional history, despite some perceived shortcomings of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, any positive transition to liberate Abia from this monarchical civilian dynasty cannot be successful without collaborating with him, notwithstanding the political party of the candidate that might win. However, we expect Dr Okezie Ikpeazu to be magnanimous in that trust by putting Abia first, so that his successor will improve on the Abia master plan legacy which he has put in place as this will save us from going back to Egypt”.
“I do not accept nor believe Dr Ikpeazu’s recent statement of not going to be interested or influence the emergence of his successor, what then makes him the leader of our party PDP if he does not supervise selection of his successor or could that statement be likened to former president, Gen. Ibrahim babangida who said “I do not know who will succeed me but I know those who won’t succeed me”.
“First in this trust is Dr Ikpeazu keeping with the Abia Senatorial Charter of Equity, so he could collaborate with frontline parties to choose candidates of equity that will be selfless in governing the state and emulate him in avoiding the richer than my predecessor syndrome”.
The Holy Bible said it, there’s time for everything under the sun and I’m convinced as God did it to pharaoh in liberating the Israelites, He is set to do it to this family and others who have held Abia hostage to let Abia go and in HIS spirit of forgiveness and mercy, God will usher into Abia a Moses come 2023.
