AFNEWS Monitors PVC Collection Exercise In Umuahia | WATCH VIDEO

Following the extension of the deadline for collection of the permanent voters cards (PVCs) by the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC), ALL FACTS TELEVISION visited some of the collection units in Umuahia, Abia state to monitor the process.

A visit to School road primary school in Umuahia, showed a large number of electorates who queued to collect their PVCs.

At the collection centre, some of the electorates expressed happiness over the ease they experienced in the collection of their PVCs. However, some of them especially those who applied for their PVCs to be transferred from one polling unit to another frowned at the delay and process of having to fill an incident form for their cards which were not found at the collection centre.

Speaking to AFNEWS at School road primary school (Urban 1); Mrs Juan Oyigbo, an electoral officer, Umuahia North local government area explained that because Urban ward 1 houses 100 polling units, the Commission decided to create 3 sub collection units within the school to ease the exercise.

Oyigbo said there has not been any challenge since the officials came on ground on January 6, 2023, adding that they have been able to attend to a large number of persons.

“there are no major challenges here, no security challenges, we are all working very hard to ensure that the public is satisfied”.

 

“We work extra time. We don’t go out until everybody is satisfied” she said.

 

She advised those yet to pick up their PVCs to utilize the opportunity given to them by INEC through the extension of deadline for PVC collection as thy work from 9am to 3pm daily.

Speaking also, the president, Progressive Abia Youths (P.A.Y.), Comrade Ekejiuba Kingsley, noted that the Body is working with INEC to ensure a smooth exercise. He called on Abians and Nigerians who are yet to collect their PVCs to do so within the time frame given by the electoral body.

 

Another visit to a collection centre in Ibeku High School showed a lesser number of people who queued to pick their PVCs. Majority of them expressed excitement over the ease they experienced in the collection of their cards.
