AFCON 2022: Why Mali-Tunisia Match Ended Before Slated Time | DETAILS

The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match between Mali and Tunisia has caused uproars following the referee blowing the final whistle too soon.

The Tunisian team had complained that Zambian official, Janny Silazwe had blown the final whistle before the slated time in their match against the The Eagles of Mali on Wednesday, the 12th of January 2021 in Limbe, Cameroon.

The international football referee had signalled the end of the match, 89 minutes and 47 seconds into the game, three minutes away from bringing the match to an official end. The disruption meant a 1- 0 win for 10- man Mali in the Group F game played in Cameroon’s coastal city, Limbe.

The upset escalated when an AFCON official entered the room on the position that game would restart while Mali’s Coach, Mohamed Magassouba was giving his post- match victory press conference.

The Eagles of Carthage, the Tunisian squad, however did not re-emerge, an action that resulted to the referee bringing the already controversial game to an ultimate end when Mali kicked off again.

In response to the absence at the restart of the game, Tunisian Head Coach, Mondher Kebaier said;

“We did not want to resume because the players had already taken their baths, deconcentrated and demoralized in the face of this gruesome situation.”
