Abians in Diaspora Commission Bill will address many challenges, says Minority Whip

The Minority Whip/member representing Arochukwu State Constituency, Abia House of Assembly, Hon. Dr. Onyekwere Mike Ukoha, has hinted that the Abians in Diaspora Commission Bill, which he sponsored, will help to address many challenges between Abia State and those in the Diaspora.

 

Speaking during a Radio interview on FLO-FM 94.9, Umuahia, the Lawmaker explained that the Bill will help to bring Abians in Diaspora to help develop the State better.

 

According to the Minority Whip, ”the essence of the Bill is to invite Abians in Diaspora who are professionals in their chosen field, to invest in areas like Engineering, Medicine, ICT, Education and many more”.

 

He stated that Abians who live abroad, return with a lot of visions, programmes and ideas that can help to develop the State better, but because there is no defined body or organization that can handle such and make it a reality, such is allowed to disappear, adding that the Commission, when established, will help to harness such ideas, visions and dreams to the advantages of Abia State.

He used the opportunity to congratulate Abians in Diaspora, on the celebration of National Diaspora Day on July 24, 2020, and used the medium to reassure them of his resolve for the speedy passage of Abians in Diaspora Bill, due to its numerous benefits.

 

Hon. Dr. Ukoha, further stated that through a motion he raised on the floor of the House on the deplorable condition of Uburu-Ihechiowa-Arochukwu Link road, a resolution was made by the lawmakers, directing the NEWMAP to help bring Engineering solution on the Erosion challenges and ABROMA to inspect the road in a bid to doing a palliative work on it.

The Lawmaker expressed delight in the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Abia State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) for providing huge relief materials worth millions of naira to Isu community on the 25th of June, 2020, for the displaced persons there, due to crises.

 

He stated that he is working in synergy with his colleague in Cross River State, to ensure there is a lasting Peace between Isu and their neighboring Utuma/Ukwa Clan.

 

Hon. Ukoha, thanked Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, for ensuring that there is peace in Isu community, Arochukwu L.G.A, and used the opportunity to assure the people of Isu of a lasting peace in the area soon.

He also thanked the State Commissioner for Culture/Tourism, on her dynamic and wonderful job she is already doing in the Ministry and promised to ensure that the House Committee on Culture/Tourism, will carry out their oversight functions, without interfering on her job and without compromising on their oversight functions.

 

When asked to talk about the crises rocking the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the Lawmaker explained that there is no party in Nigeria without its peculiar challenge, adding that though there is crisis in APGA, the party will come out from it stronger.
