The Students Union Government (SUG), of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUAU), in Abia State, has impeached its President, Otuonye Famous.
MOUAU Students Representative Council led by Okezie Gideon, during their sitting on Thursday, June 10, passed a vote of no confidence on Otuonye Famous whom, the 26th parliament thereafter, declared impeached.
ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER gathered that Famous had been suspended before now, but was reinstated following interventions from various angles.
He was impeached over alleged reoccurring misappropriation of funds, embezzlement, incompetency, diversion of funds, looting of the Union’s treasury, which was the same reason for his earlier suspension.
Information made available to our correspondent, alleged that Famous embezzled funds as listed below;
- Famous and his cohorts allegedly embezzled N15,060,000 from the SUG, MOUAU.
- Alleged withdrawal of N3.6M from the Union’s account without the knowledge of the Union and personalised alert notifications from the bank.
- Allegedly Collected N1,000 each from over 3000, year one students for surveillance , summing up-to N3M.
- Alleged diversion of N5.760M, released by the Vice Chancellor, for 200 litres of diesel for 140 days.
- Allegedly defrauded Maggi cube company of N200k using the Union’s name without the knowledge of
- Allegedly generated N1.5m from the sales of fake scratch cards produced without the knowledge of the Union and the Dean students affair.
- Allegedly looted the money donated by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for the burial of a former SUG President, late Comrade Ononiwu Precious .
Meanwhile, Mildred Riches Chinenye, has been appointed as the acting president of the Students Union Government, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike Abia State.
Attempts made by ALL FACTS NEWSPAPER to reach the impeached President, Famous and the acting President, Mildred, proved abortive as their phones were switched off.
