It was fanfare on Friday 16th August 2021 at Isuochi Unity Square, venue for the civic reception organized by Isuochi Development Union(IDU) the apex socio-cultural body in Isuochi ancient Kingdom headed by the president- General Chief Samuel Ohia.
The leadership of Isuochi Development Union (IDU) in their initiative organized a grand civic reception for their illustrious sons and daughters who has distinguished themselves in public service featuring the Honorable member representing Umunneochi State Constituency Hon. Okey Igwe Esq, Prof. Maduebibisi Iwe, the Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University Umudike, Engr Sunday Okpara, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Works Abia State, Engr. Chidozie Chukwumerije, Executive Director, Planning & Design, Anambra Imo River Basin Development Authority, Owerri, Dr. Chukwuemeka Joseph Chukwu, Resident Electoral Commission (INEC) Ebonyi State, Comr. Christopher Okpara, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Homeland Security Abia State and Prof S.N. Ukachukwu, Vice Chancellor, Wesley University, Ondo State.
The Chairman of the occasion Prof. Ihechukwu Madubuike a one time minister of Health and Education Federal Republic of Nigeria in his address lauded the initiative of the present leadership of IDU and congratulated the awardees urging them to use their position for the growth and development of their Community. He particularly eulogised the Sterling leadership qualities of Hon. Okey Igwe whom he described as people’s choice having been elected the Executive Chairman and now House of Assembly member consecutively.
The Chairman and CEO of Mainland Oil and Gas Ltd Chief Dr. Chris Chris Odinaka Igwe (Okesisi Abia) in his remarks congratulated the new leadership of IDU and thanked them for coming up with the such lofty idea. He supported the Unity square project with a cash donation promising to bring in more support as the project progress.
Addressing the people, Hon. Okey Igwe Esq thanked the entire people of Isuochi and Umunneochi in general for trusting him with their mandate first as an Executive Chairman and now as a House of Assembly member. He appreciated the leadership of IDU for the honour of recognition on the epoch making event of the grand civic reception. He enumerated his achievements so far which include restoration of electricity, rehabilitation of rural roads, Widows monthly stipend intervention, boreholes and construction of class room blocks etc. He reiterated his umpteenth desire to continue serve the people diligently to the best of his ability. He made a cash donation towards the unity square project for a start.
The Governor of Abia State was ably represented by his deputy Rt. Hon. Sir Ude Okochukwu in his remarks applauded the people of Isuochi for erecting such a gigantic building called Isuochi Unity Square. He equally brought the goodwill of the Governor appreciating Isuochi and Umunneochi in general for voting PDP during their first and second term in office and particularly for their support towards the Government.
The event attracted the presence of prominent and eminent personalities in the state which includes Sir Onyi wamah Head of Service Abia State, Chief Sir Ndidi Okereke former State PDP Chairman, Chief Fabian Nwankwo State Publicity Secretary of PDP Abia State etc.
