Eziukwu market women took to the street today to protest the new N18,000 tax bill levied them by Abia State government.
The protesters included food stuff sellers, vegetable sellers and other house hold merchandise.

They carried different placards with inscriptions against the N18,000 levy.
In response to the protest, Abia State Internal Revenue Services Agency (BIR) explained that N18,000 tax levy is an annual payment which is broken down to mean N1,500 a month and N75 per day.
They further explained that the N18,000 will cover Personal Income Tax, ASEPA, Stallage, ABSAA, PPIDF and Fire Service payment for the Year.

Based on the Press Release sent to Abia Facts News, the board exposed that the payment is aimed at eliminating multiple agents and agencies collecting money from sellers in the market.
Furthermore, they stated that the levy is for those operating in shops, while non shop owners will pay toll.
Due to the friction, the payment was now segmented into 6 equal installments.
