….Contractor mobilised to site for project commencement

 

The House of Representatives member, Arochukwu/Ohafia federal constituency, Rt. Hon. Uko Nkole has once again, successfully attracted the Rehabilitation of Akanu Ohafia Water Scheme, in Ohafia LGA which has been moribund for years.

Speaking when he led the teams from the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Abuja and the Contractor, Messrs Umazz Energy Services Limited who were on a site inspection visit to the area on Tuesday November 10, 2020, Rep. Member Nkole said that the choice of the project is in line with the request made by the community when he had a meeting with the Town Union Presidents in the federal constituency.

The federal lawmaker who is also a member of the House of Representatives Committee on Water Resources represented by Chief Don Emeka Emeri who doubles as the Director General Friends of Uko Nkole and also President General, Akanu Ohafia Development Union respectively expressed delight that the project which he has been vigorously pursuing since 2017 has finally been approved and awarded by the Federal Executive Council. He urged members of the community to give the Project Contractor the needed support and cooperation for the timely completion of the project within the stipulated time and reiterated his commitments to keep attracting impactful projects to his Constituency.The regional water project was commissioned first in June 1986 by the then military administrator of Old Imo State.

Rt. Hon. Nkole also used the medium to express deep appreciation to the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu for his accelerated response by providing all the required supports and logistics for the Team of Directorates from the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and the Contractor. Hon. Nkole while assuring the Governor of the unalloyed supports of Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, also promised to continue to complement the efforts of the Governor in providing adequate infrastructures and basic amenities to the Federal constituency.

While addressing the Akanu Ohafia Community traditional ruler, cabinet members, Development Union Executives, Youths and Women of Akanu Ohafia at the palace of Ezeogo Mba Odo Okereke, the Deputy Director, Urban Water Supply, Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Engr. Paul Oparaji who led the Team of Directorate Cadre and the Contractor, said they were in Akanu Ohafia to hand over the site to the Contractor and also carry out an onsite assessment to enable him commence work immediately, adding that the project was facilitated by Rt. Hon. Uko Nkole who he said, worked tirelessly for the realization of the project in order for him to provide portable water to the community.

Engr. Paul said the Akanu Water scheme which is an existing project got moribund and dilapidated along the line, but was approved and awarded for the rehabilitation as a result of the strength of the report received by the Ministry which was presented by the community through the federal lawmaker.

The Deputy Director of the Urban Water Supply added that the study and design of the project has been completed since last year and all the four (4) sections that make up the Akanu community were considered in the design which has undergone procurement process and now awarded.

” The project will commence this month, November 2020, and expected to be completed and commissioned before the end of next year, 2021. We have brought a competent contractor and I assure you that soon, “Water will be flowing in Akanu again”. Engr. Paul further appealed for the supports and maximum cooperation of the host community which will create an enabling environment for the Contractor to complete the project.

He finally explained that the project scope entails;

– The rehabilitation of the two borehole to be powered by a solar,

– Rehabilitation of the surface and overhead tanks,

– Construction of 420,000 liters surface tank,

– Rehabilitation of dilapidated offices, staff quarters and the generator room,

– Construction of access roads and new two solar powered borehole,

– Provision of 300kva transformer that will connect the community to the National Grid,

– And Reticulation of the pipes for about 10km with street lights.

In their separate speeches, the Ezieogo of Akanu Ohafia Community, HRH, Ezie Mba Odo Okereke, JP, the President General of Akanu Ohafia Development Union, Chief Don Emeka Emeri, the National President, Akanu Ohafia Development Union, Women Wing, Eld. Mrs. Nne Udy Ajike, and the representative of the Akanu Ohafia Youth President, Enyinnaya Ngwobia including the Women leader, Inyom Akanu, Chief Mrs. Azunnaya E. Mong who were visibly elated thanked Hon. Nkole for fulfilling his promise and noted that the water project when completed will bring succour to the sufferings of the community due to lack of water.

They pledges maximum cooperation and security for the contractors and assured that the Development Union will provided the necessary supports that will ensure the smooth and speedy completion of the project.

Also, in their vote of thanks, Engr. Udy Ajike and Retired Surveyor Ole U. Ikpa thanked Hon. Nkole for his effective representation and remembering Akanu Ohafia community once again in his vision one village, one project. They commended his unrelenting efforts in pursuing and ensuring the realization of the project, and wished him well in his future political endeavours.

” Though we had about two newly constructed boreholes in the community , its nothing to be compared to the gigantic Akanu Ohafia water scheme which when completed will serve water to the whole community.
