There was wide jubilation on Friday February 26th 2021, in Ogbodiukwu Umuokpara in Umuahia Abia State, as 10 prominent sons of Umuopara formally defected to the All Progressive Congress, APC with their supporters.
The defection programme which was graced by APC top leadership in Umuahia South had bigwigs like Senator Chris Adighije, Honorable Acho Obioma, Commander MacDonald Ubah Rtd, Honorable Uche Nwosu, Chief Mike Akpara representing Dr. Alex Otti OFR and numerous others.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Acho Obioma popularly known as Chomen, revealed that the party APC, will sweep out all the bad meted on the state by PDP.
While charging the new members of the party, Acho warned against faction and disloyalty.
He said; ” this event has the presence of the highest echelons of the party to show you how welcome you are into APC.
“ Don’t be in APC and be in another party. We want every individual registered as members of APC. “As you have joined APC, you have dropped APGA, and other parties. Do not create another party in APC. You have joined as an individual member, not a group membership.
“We hope that everyone is coming with the tendency of building and not dividing.
“We know your quality and we will treat you like a member of APC as you have come”. he concluded.
The high point of the event was when the new party members were given the symbol of the party which is the broom. They were admonished to use the broom to clean up all the mess PDP has created in the state, while working together as a bunch.
In an interview with AF-NEWS, a former PDP member who joined APC, Sir Kaodichinma Ohaka said he resolved to give his ‘unalloyed, total and comprehensive allegiance to APC’.
Reacting to why he left PDP, Ohaka said he defected because things were not moving well in the party, adding that he decided to say ‘enough is enough’.
On his part, Senator Adighije expressed happiness over the event. He stated that the battle is over as new and strong members are joining the party everyday. He also stated that there is space for everybody in APC.
Adighije while recalling the statement made against Governor Okezie Ikpeazu by Senator Smart Adeyemi, said APC will take over Abia government house and put a governor that means business.
The senator however, charged against division and faction in the party.
Also, one of the defectors, Hon. John Abraham Godson, a former honorable member in Poland and the first black Polish parliamentarian, said it took him four years to realize that Nigeria is worth dying for, adding that he is ready to die for Nigeria.
While speaking, the event coordinator and one of the defectors Chief Chikezie Iroabuchi, a former APGA chieftain, revealed that the darkness in Abia State is over. He stressed that APC stands for change and dividends of democracy.
“PDP is dead in Ogbodiukwu community and cannot rise again” he concluded.
