The Abia State Liaison Officer has taken a bold step in securing federal employment opportunities for Abia youths through strategic engagement with the Nigeria Immigration Service. Find out what was discussed and the key resolutions reached.

In a bid to enhance employment opportunities for Abia State indigenes in federal agencies, the Abia State National Assembly Liaison Officer, Iheanyi Frank Chinasa, M.B.A, has engaged with top officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) at its headquarters in Abuja.
During the high-profile visit, Chinasa met with Assistant Comptrollers General (ACG) Echefuna L. Anugwa and ACG A.K. Ademola, where he made a strong case for increased inclusion of Abia youths in the ongoing and future recruitment exercises of the NIS. The discussions centered on ensuring fair representation, launching awareness campaigns, and creating a structured support system for Abia applicants.
Key Resolutions from the Meeting:
Equitable Representation: Advocacy for a fair recruitment process that ensures more qualified Abia State indigenes secure positions in the service.
Awareness Campaigns: A strategic initiative to educate prospective applicants on recruitment guidelines and eligibility criteria.
Formal Communication Channel: Establishing direct liaison between NIS and the Abia State Government to facilitate employment processes.
Dedicated Recruitment Help Desk: A proposal for a support system within the NIS to assist Abia applicants in navigating the application and selection process.
Chinasa emphasized the need for a level playing field, reiterating that many young, qualified individuals from Abia State are often sidelined in federal recruitment exercises due to lack of information and representation.
In response, the Nigeria Immigration Service reaffirmed its commitment to a merit-based and transparent recruitment process, ensuring that all qualified candidates—including those from Abia State—receive equal opportunities in line with federal character principles.
The Abia State Liaison Office has assured continued engagement with key stakeholders and rigorous follow-ups to monitor the implementation of the agreed resolutions.
