ABIA LG Workers Cry Out Over Unfair Treatment, As NULGE Writes Gov. Ikpeazu

The Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Abia state chapter, has stated that the administration of the Abia state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, have not been fair to workers at the local government level.

In a letter dated April 7, 2022, signed by comrade Nwaigwe Ikechi Kennedy (State President) and comrade Afolabi Abayoni (secretary), NULGE lamented that local government workers received 70% minimum wage for the month of February, 2022, against 100% other workers receives.

The letter was addressed to the governor, through the Honorable Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Umuahia.

The LG Workers also noted that the government is owing them two months arrears of salaries for November and December, 2020; March 2022.

“… We wish to bring to your notice that local government workers are not given fair treatment in the scheme of things in the state under your leadership.

“Recall that in the month of February, 2022, local government workers and others that draw salaries from local government were paid 70% minimum wage.

“…this month of march, it is also the same as your ministry has proposed same 70% payment of salaries to our members, whereas other civil servants in the state continue to receive 100% salaries”

The Union noted that they have resolved not to accept any salary payment less than 100%, appealing that governor Ikpeazu direct full payment of their salaries

“consequently, your excellency sir, after our extra ordinary joint meeting today, 7th April, 2022, the unions (NULGE, MHWUN, NASU-ASUBEB and NUT) resolved to inform you that full payment of March, 2022 be paid without further delay. A stitch in time saves nine.”
