Abia Lawmaker Prestige Ossy worried about rising COVID-19 cases in Abia

The member who represents Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Prestige Ossy, has described as very worrisome, the astronomical increase in the coronavirus cases in Abia State, as the state records 81 new cases in the last 3 days. He said the situation demands declaration of emergency in the fight against the deadly scourge in the state.

The lawmaker revealed that he felt very sad to hear the news that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and some members of his cabinet tested positive, noting that the Governor has been in the forefront of the battle to contain the spread of the virus in the State.

Ossy reiterated that it has become urgent and essential for every Abian to take responsibility and put all hands on deck in the fight against COVID-19 in the state.

He urged the Abia State Government to scale up its financial commitment to implement planned activities to prevention and response to COVID-19. Increase efforts in testing Abia residents in order to know the status of the people. Make viral the phone numbers where those who have symptoms can call and get immediate response. And Isolation Centres should be widely publicized to enable residents have on the spot information on the facilities available.

He urged residents of the state to take every precautionary measure and adhere strictly to health advice to prevent getting contracted to the disease (wash hands regularly, physical distancing, use of face mask, etc). Noting that no one will feign ignorance of the challenges facing all and sundry in the state, in view of the vulnerability of the people to disease outbreaks due to the ongoing crisis which has caused enormous internal displacements, loss of jobs and devastation of the health system. But in all these, the people need to be safe first, because only the living can plan for tomorrow.

Finally, Hon. Ossy prayed for the quick recovery of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and everyone else who tested positive for COVID-19.
